Students follow learning programmes leading to National Curriculum tests in English, Maths and Science. Some students take these tests at the end of Year 8, and others in Year 9. The rest of the curriculum is based on the Royal Society of Arts 21st Century curriculum, Opening Minds, which focuses on the development of students' skills and talents. Students have access to the humanities, arts, technology, sports, languages and ICT. They also have a voice in mapping their route through their curriculum leading to high levels of engagement and achievement.
A full complement of GCSE’s is supplemented with Specialised Diplomas and Applied and Vocational GCSE’s. As a specialised Media Academy we will develop student’s experience in a variety of Media focused activities aiming to give breadth of understanding through work related learning. Some students begin GCSE courses as early as Year 7. All students are expected to gain a grade at GCSE before the end of Year 9. Gifted and talented students follow express programmes of enriched study. Students who need extra learning support are nurtured towards achievement.
The provision of Sixth Form Education will be provided from September 09 or earlier depending on buildings. Planning for this provision is at an early stage but it is anticipated that a variety of ‘A’ Level, ‘AS’ Level and Specialised Diplomas will be used. Links with local businesses and other Oasis Academies in the area will also be strong.
