Oasis and The Charities Parliament host hustings at Oasis Academy MediaCityUK

Oasis and The Charities Parliament will be hosting a hustings with a specific emphasis. The event, entitled ‘Investing in our Children’s Future’, will take place on the evening of the 28th April at Oasis Academy MediaCityUK.

The current MP, Hazel Blears (Labour), Matthew Sephton (Conservative) and Norman Owen (Liberal Democrat) will be addressing local and national issues. This particular husting will specifically focus on education and families, but will also look at other election issues too.

Pete Brierley, Director of The Charities Parliament, said, “It is important that charities, schools, churches and the voluntary sector have their say. They're the ones delivering well-being in our communities and often they have the experience and credibility to put forward the best ideas. Each political party have verbally embraced the voluntary and faith sector and this gives local people opportunity to question the prospective candidates as to their policies in these areas.”

Mark Greer, Church Leader of Oasis Church Salford, who sits on Oasis Academy MediaCityUK’s Council and will Chair the evening, said, “This question time will most definitely be a different flavour to most hustings. Education and Community have a direct link to one another. Where a local community have the facility to learn it enhances community. Where there is a thriving local community, education becomes more important. This is our opportunity to explore with prospective candidates what they will do to enhance these subjects practically.”

Kelly McKay, Acting Principal of Oasis Academy MediaCityUK, said, “We are delighted to be hosting a hustings at the Academy. We are very keen our students learn about and understand the need for political engagement. We are all eagerly anticipating what should be a fantastic event.”
