Students in the Sixth Form at Oasis Academy MediaCityUK have organised a big recycling project and have become a
member of Eco-Schools. We are aware that three Oasis Academies are currently members of Eco-Schools and have
achieved bronze level. We intend to beat this level by April 2010 by reaching silver status! The status can be seen by
becoming a member, free of charge, on the Eco-Schools website: www.eco-schools.org.uk.
Two students began the project by purchasing twenty plastic 45L containers, labelled with stickers and distributed them to
two members of staff in each department. They then ordered a 1000L paper & card recycle bin for the canteen staff, which
arrived last week. They liaised with the Council environmental team who gave advice and practical steps to take. They then
acted upon this advice by setting up an eco-committee comprising of a student from each year group. This committee meet
once a term to discuss issues relating to litter and recycling and doing our bit to save the earth.
