Academy manages to exceed all expectations!

Oasis Academy MediaCityUK is celebrating an outstanding increase in GCSE results after major changes in management and structure within the Academy. Relentless focus on the quality of teaching, and a consistent approach to standards has been the key factors instrumental in the leap of success for students this year.

The Academy which gained a 51% pass rate of students gaining 5 A* - C grades including English & maths, a 10% increase on the previous year and considerably exceeds the government standard of 35%, is jumping for joy and is proud of the efforts all students have put in to achieve this outstanding result. Along with this great success the Academy can boast that 96% of all students achieved at least 5 A*- C with 11% of these gaining 5 or more A* - A grades.

Joshua Hopper, a student of Oasis Academy MediaCityUK has managed to not only excel and surpass his predicted grades but has managed to become the Academy's top performing student gaining 4 A*'s in English and Science, 7 A's ranging from maths to Spanish with his lowest mark being a B in Art. Despite heavy commitments in and outside of the academy Joshua really knuckled down to his work and gained these truly excellent results allowing him to move on into further education with confidence.

Heather Rawlinson, a student of Oasis Academy MediaCityUK was presented with some very difficult personal circumstances being a young career and a full time student. Throughout her time at the Academy she kept a high level of self-respect and managed to keep her private life and school life separate. She kept an excellent attendance and punctuality record coupled with commitment to work. By doing this Heather has achieved 14 GCSE's giving her a head start in her future education or working life.

Olivia Lyons, a student of Oasis Academy MediaCityUK has been suffering with Crohn's disease an illness that could of threatened her ability to succeed with good grades. Olivia always managed to stay focused and on track with all of her GCSE subjects and has always remained positive throughout. Despite having to be absent from school she kept up to date with all course work and essay's sometimes having to complete these whilst in her hospital bed. Olivia's mum made sure all her work was in on time making many journeys to and from the Academy picking up and dropping off school work allowing her daughter to keep on target. Olivia refused to let her medical concerns get in the way of her schoolwork gaining some incredible results. She hopes to move on to college studying English and drama with a vision to go to university after this. Olivia gained 2 A*'s in English Literature and drama and gained 15 more GCSE grades.

16-year-old Joshua Hopper from the Academy said: "I am so happy with my results I can not believe how much I have achieved. I am surprised at how well I did. My mum will be so proud."

16-year-old Heather Rawlinson from the Academy said: "I really had to get stuck in to my studies but it has shown me that by doing this I can achieve above what I thought I could do. I am going onto do catering in college and my results have helped me get the place I wanted."

16-year-old Olivia Lyons from the Academy said: "I never thought about my illness as a barrier for me doing well, I knew what I had to do and I made shore I did what I could to get my grades. I am overly excited with my results I never expected I would do this well."

Janet Lyons, Olivia Lyons mother said: "It has been a struggle over the past few years but the commitment Olivia has shown along with all the staff and teachers at the Academy has more than helped in her success. The Academy has supported her 100% despite and there are no words to describe how thankful we are. I am so proud of my daughter despite her absence from illness she has never stopped trying and giving her absolute best"

Principal of Oasis Academy MediaCityUK, Patrick Ottley-O'Connor said: "Today has been a magnificent example of how working together as a staff we can help students to achieve there potential and in many cases surpass what they have been predicted. I am proud of everything our students have achieved and am looking forward to using this year as a spring board for future success in our new £24million build on MediaCityUK."
