Secretary Of State Visits Oasis Academy MediaCityUK
03/11/2008
Students and staff welcomed the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, the Rt Hon Ed Balls MP, when he visited Oasis Academy MediaCityUK on Thursday the 23rd October to celebrate its new status as part of the growing family of Oasis Academies.
He toured the Academy, taking in the substantial investment in the ICT suite where a range of new Apple Mac computers have been purchased to aid students’ learning, as well as the significant building improvements through refurbished classrooms, corridors and the upgrading of students’ facilities.
Dave Terry, Principal of Oasis Academy MediaCityUK, said:
I am delighted that Ed Balls took the time to visit us and was able to see firsthand the great improvements that have been made throughout the Academy. Last summer, in our transition year, we achieved a fantastic set of GCSE results, with over 55 per cent of students getting A* - C grades; a 23 per cent improvement!
We are very proud of all of our achievements so far and are looking forward to what the future will bring for Oasis Academy MediaCityUK; not least making the exciting move across into our new building in 2011.
Steve Chalke, Chief Executive of Oasis Community Learning, said:
We are committed to making a real difference to education in the Greater Manchester area. Oasis Academy MediaCityUK has exciting plans with its specialism of Media and ICT and will be at the heart of a new media village. This will open up fantastic opportunities for the young people who attend the Academy.
We are very pleased that the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families visited to see the great work that is going on.
