Extra Curricular Activities

A wide range of activities are planned for students within courses to enrich and extend their learning, such as field trips and residential visits in Geography. Careers and employer-related events take place in all subjects. In addition, there are a range of events, clubs and activities that take place after school for an hour each day.

We have a number of exciting extra curricular activities available to our students.

Duke of Edinburgh Award

The Duke of Edinburgh Award helps young people develop into well rounded and responsible individuals, and according to a recent survey it is regarded by many of the major employers in the United Kingdom as the most important activity that takes place in schools.

At Oasis Academy MediaCityUK we encourage students to participle, and currently run the Bronze award from Year 9 upwards.

The Award consists of 4 units over at total of 6 months:

To successfully achieve their Bronze Award, students need to complete the 4 sections over the agreed timeframe.

In regards to the Voluntary, Physical and Skills sections, students select an appropriate activity that they will complete on a weekly basis. The DofE participant will then log evidence for these sections on their Online DofE account (Links Below). The evidence of participation will then be checked and approved by a DofE assessor from the Academy.

  • Volunteering- pupils offer service to individuals or the community. This can range from teaching primary pupils to read, visiting the elderly, clearing footpaths to recycling within the School.
  • Skill - this essentially means a hobby. It encourages discovery and development of practical and social skills and personal interests.
  • Physical Recreation - Encourages participation/improvement in physical activity.
  • Expedition - this encourages a spirit of adventure and discovery. At all levels of the award, appropriate training is given and practice expeditions take place.

To ensure that students are correctly prepared for the 2 day assessed expedition, students have to attend regular training at the Academy (see useful information section for the timetable) and a practice expedition.
